Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and every year without fail, my family and I carve pumpkins. Since I have an obsessive-compulsive desire to go out of the box, I try to make my pumpkins different. They usually end up as a reflection of my geekdom. E.g., the pumpkin I ended up with this year.
So Walter White isn’t very “halloweeny.” I’m going to take his attitude and not really care what you guys think. Heisenberg does what he wants.
Did I mention that I also painted a Castiel pumpkin? He’s adorbs.
Anyways, what I’m saying is that whether it’s your pumpkin or your Halloween costume, don’t be afraid to do what you want to do. A close friend of mine was going as River Song (from Doctor Who) before she decided to go as Christine Daae from The Phantom Of The Opera. Does she sound like she cares about what people think of her or the Halloween costume norms for our age? (these include slutty princess, slutty pirate, slutty witch, and, most bizarrely, slutty whale: http://www.ohgizmo.com/2013/10/08/sexy-version-of-bizarre-halloween-costumes/weird-sexy-halloween-costumes7/ …I don’t know either) My friend is comfortable with who she is and isn’t afraid to dress up as the characters that she loves. And that’s awesome. My girl cousin went as Optimus Prime one year. Also awesome. I’m not saying that any and all Halloween costumes will be instantly recognized or appreciated. But if you love something, show it! Even if people don’t know who you are exactly, they’ll respect you for being an individual. And if they don’t, well…
Are you going as something uniquely awesome this year? Let me know! Share your individuality in the comments! I love Halloween and I’d love to hear your costume ideas!
